The Division of Thermal Technology and Power Solutions conducts air ingress detection during turbine operation. This method is based on the principle that the ingressed air is rapidly carried by the steam flow toward the condenser’s subcooling surface and is then evacuated along with the remaining steam to the vacuum pump. The method involves tracking the ingressed air by blowing helium into the system and analysing the helium concentration in the mixture at the intake of the operational vacuum pump.
