Emissions Monitoring and Assessment
The operation of energy and industrial facilities is often associated with the release of emissions into the atmosphere. For our clients, we provide continuous emission measurement, monitoring, and evaluation in compliance with applicable legislation. In addition to these services, we offer ongoing servicing and consultancy support, including operational record-keeping and report preparation for government authorities.
With more than 30 years of experience and numerous installations in both the Czech Republic and abroad, we use a comprehensive evaluation system for continuous monitoring (VS EMON), which can be applied to any type of continuous measurement.
The system consists of four logical units:
- Analysis technology and services
- Data acquisition and transmission
- Visualization and processing of collected measurement data
- Reporting for government authorities
Analytical technology and services:
We provide automated measuring systems (AMS) for monitoring concentrations of particulate matter (PM) and gaseous pollutants (GP), measured using IN-SITU and extraction methods. Additionally, we measure accompanying parameters such as oxygen content, temperature, pressure, humidity, and flue gas flow.
We provide turnkey solutions, including the selection of AMS systems with TÜV and MCERTS (QAL1) certification, project planning, supply, installation, configuration, inspection, commissioning, and operator training for emission measurements, addressing both regulatory and operational needs.
We also provide regular inspections, both during and after the warranty period, along with functional tests, repairs, and 24/7 emergency service. All AMS are connected to our remote control centre, enabling us to perform initial diagnostics and management remotely, significantly reducing response time for potential malfunctions. If an issue cannot be resolved on-site, we offer customers the option to borrow a replacement measuring device.
Data acquisition and transmission:
The transmission of data from the analytical equipment to our EMON server is managed through local PLCs. Both analogue and binary signals from the analysers are connected to these PLCs. While the analogue signals relay measured parameters, the binary signals provide a summary overview of the analyser’s status and behaviour. Each signal is galvanically isolated to prevent interference. The PLCs are powered by a backup UPS system, ensuring protection against unexpected power outages. The PLCs communicate with the EMON server via the Modbus communication protocol.
Visualization and processing of collected measurement data:
The EMON continuous emissions monitoring visualisation system is a server-based application developed in PROMOTIC®, which collects, analyses, and evaluates data from continuous emissions monitoring.
The application is installed on a server located at the stationary pollution source site and runs continuously. The server is equipped with a backup power supply to prevent data loss and ensure uninterrupted visualisation.
The visualisation can be accessed via a web browser and it can thus be viewed from any location with authorised server access. This enables the operator to monitor the visualisation at their workstation, helping to control the combustion process and ensure compliance with emission limits.
The main functions of the application include:
- Basic data collection from PLCs
- Verification, processing, and conversion of electrical values to physical values
- Statistical processing (minute, half-hour, monthly, and annual averages)
- Conversion of measured values into physical quantities
- Conversion of pollutant concentrations to standard reference conditions
- Verification of compliance with emission limits
- Creation and display of pollutant concentration forecasts
- Processing of historical trends for measured values with the option to export to Excel
- Logging alarms and events for future reference
- Communication with operator stations of the monitoring system using an integrated web server
- Storing data in a local SQL database
The system is designed as modular, allowing for easy modifications based on customer needs or legislative changes.
Reporting to government authorities:
After statistical processing, the final data output is generated as structured reports for government authorities and equipment operators. These reports are based on ready-made templates that present the collected data and compare it to operational conditions. The application features a user-friendly interface, allowing users to view data in tables or graphs for any selected period, with options to export in various formats (pdf, doc, xls, png).
It also includes regular monthly processing and data validation, which “locks” the data to prevent any accidental changes. All data is backed up on dedicated servers and stored in the company’s data repository.
We also provide evaluation systems for continuous emission measurement (CEMS) and operational technology measurements as part of a comprehensive turnkey service package. Our solutions consist of analysers from leading global manufacturers, our own user-friendly software, and a comprehensive suite of services related to system commissioning, tailored to the specific requirements of the client.
